#46 Abbreviated Type Study

Types 1 - 2 (1873 - 1875)
  • Jappanned
  • Brass screws do not have slots
  • Spurs are wedge-shaped (no screw)
  • Tip of tote is very long and graceful
  • Extra cast iron shoe included
  • Guard plate performed the fence function.

Types 3 (1876 - 1879)
  • Spurs are now held on with a screw
  • Otherwise like types 1 and 2
 

 
Type 4 (1880 - 1883)
  • Brass screws now have slots
  • Tip of tote is noticeably shorter - more like a #45 tote

Types 5 & 6: (1884-1892)

Type 7 (1893 - 1896)
 
  • Nickel-plated. 
  • Still has guard plate.
  • Some (all?) models still have the cast iron shoe.

Type 8 (1896 - 1898)
 
  • Guard plate eliminated - replaced with fence. 
  • No rosewood

Type 9  (1898-1904)
